Green Dot, the largest provider of prepaid cards, is buying the bank Bonneville Bancorp, in a bold move to offer prepaid cards through a new medium.
Arjan Schutte, Senior Advisor, CFSI, was quoted in an article in the Huffington Post explaining that Green Dot's move may not make the experience of using a prepaid card different for the consumer, but that it adds a variety of channels for the company to market.
A number of statistics were also quoted from the New Underbanked Market Data Knowledge Brief released earlier this month by Core Innovation Capital and CFSI, shedding light on the underbanked market. The report also supports the idea that prepaid cards are just one development in the growing alternative consumer financial products market.
